I’m off down the pub – to stimulate the economy

The Russian Finance Minister has urged citizens to support the economy – by drinking and smoking more. Alexei Kudrin called for increased consumption of tobacco and alcohol in a bid to boost state revenues.

“If you smoke a pack of cigarettes, that means you are giving more to help solve social problems,” he said. “People should understand: Those who drink, those who smoke are doing more to help the state.”

Don’t expect a similar announcement from Bill English any time soon!
