BNZ negotiations next week – we’re taking a “better off” approach and we call on the BNZ to do the same

Finsec members will start negotiations with the BNZ next week and want this years bargaining to be simple and direct and focused on the most important issues for staff.

Union council chair Callum Francis said Finsec members were very conscious of the economic conditions leading into bargaining. “We want the bank to bring a positive solutions-driven spirit to negotiations. We also believe the economic environment makes a one-year term very important.”

Callum said that getting around the pre-negotiations meeting had given him a real perspective on the issues for members. “Job security is a common theme, and people are really concerned about changes to targets and their impact on incentive payment.”

When it comes to the bank’s claims, Callum said that Finsec members were most concerned about the threat to their Sundays. “Would senior management like it if they regularly had to sacrifice their Sundays with their families if they were on an average BNZ worker’s wage? I don’t think so.”
