Auckland bus drivers locked out for sticking to their contracts

Another employer has joined the hall of shame of recent weeks by locking out workers taking legitimate and lawful industrial action. NZ Bus (owned by Infratil) has locked out around 1000 bus drivers who were going to work to rule (or to the letter of their contracts) on Thursday.

Their proposed action included not working free overtime or skipping health and safety procedures.
Ordinary commuters will of course be the ones to suffer by the employer’s action of shutting down a good portion of Auckland’s bus network. Auckland Regional Council Chairman Mike Lee told Radio NZ that ratepayers paid NZ Bus $150,000 per day in subsidies and there had to be “some payback for the disruption they are deliberately causing. “
