Taking a clear vision for BNZ members into bargaining

Members of the BNZ Union Council met this week in Wellington to strategise in the leadup to negotiations, and to discuss their vision for the bank.

Their vision is simple but a good one – to create an equitable working environment that guarantees job security with good pay and conditions for all.

And the plan on how to get there? Growing Finsec membership and involving everyone. Debbie Poa from the BNZ  Wellsford store said this was crucial, and knows that from working in a small store it was easy to feel isolated. “Getting on the conference calls, I’ve seen that the issues we deal with are all the same, even for non-members. We need to encourage everyone to get involved.

Debbie said that with job security such a huge issue that many people feel they are lucky to even have a job. “Job security is obviously a crucial issue, but the flipside is that the bank is lucky to have us! They say people are number one, and without us the business would not be the success it is.”

“The bank is doing some really good things at the moment, and we just need to build on that, make sure staff are central to that, and keep moving up.”
