BNZ staff looking to recession-proof our jobs

BNZ union members have launched a campaign to recession-proof their jobs. Finsec members recently attended meetings where they set goals for their upcoming bargaining that prioritise job security, make targets fair in a recession and ensures their pay goes forward not backwards.

Gabby Watson from BNZ Collections in Wellington went along to her local meeting and raised some of the important issues to her – targets and pay. “I’m really concerned that our targets are unrealistic and have only been met a handful of times in the last few years. Our targets pit teams of staff against each other. Also, our pay is not what it should be.”

Gabby said other issues raised at her local meeting included job security, and that concern is deepening following the bank’s proposal to restructure roles cutting up to 45 jobs.

“I love working here, but I have seen growing discontent about the way targets and sick leave are managed in particular. We need to work together through Finsec to make the bank notice what our issues are and set out to address them.”
