Latch on to six months paid parental leave

Labour MP Sue Moroney launched her campaign for paid parental leave to be extended to six months week at the Big Latch On event last week. The event highlighting the benefits of breastfeeding was an apt place to discuss Moroney’s bill, which would enable women to stay home longer with babies and continue to breastfeed.
“The financial pressure to return to work is a significant barrier to women continuing to breastfeed their babies and my bill supports the world health organisation recommendation for breastfeeding to the age of six months,” said Sue Moroney.
New Zealand currently has 14 weeks Paid Parental Leave, and Sue Moroney has putting forward a private members bill to extend this to 26 weeks by 2013.
