Money’s amazing magical powers

Those of you who handle cash as part of your job may not know it, but you could have gained super hero like powers from your close access to cash (even if its not your own!).

The National Business Review recently reported on a study that found handling money can dull physical pain as well as ease emotional pain caused by social rejection.

Xinyue Zhour from Sun Yat-Sen University in Guanzhou found that merely touching bank notes affected respondents physically and emotionally. Tested against people who touched plain paper, those who handled money rated less pain on having their hands dipped into hot water!

The study also tested the effect of a game where some players were ignored – and the money-handlers also reported less distress than the paper-handlers.
