Trust us, we know what we’re doing

Readers’ Digest’s annual Trust survey of which brands Kiwis trust most showed that the Australian-owned banks are dropping out of public favour.
ASB dropped 33 places to 80th, ANZ was down 31 places to 124th, BNZ fell 26 places to 113th, the National Bank dropped 23 places to 96th and Westpac was down five places to 101st, while New Zealand owned Kiwibank was in 30th place.
The banks also took a beating in Rod Oram’s column in this week’s Sunday Star Times. Oram says the big four banks are “pursuing remarkably similar cost-cutting, risk-averse, under-funded, profit-enhancing strategies dictated by their parents. This isn’t collusion. It’s simply a narrow, collective mind-set.”
