Worker advocate sacked from ACC Board

The Council of Trade Unions is concerned that the sacking of former union leader Ross Wilson as ACC Board Chair is paving the way for privatization of accident compensation, and say the government is deliberately undermining ACC with anonymous misinformation.

CTU Secretary Peter Conway says that claims that ACC has suffered major investment losses are misleading. “In fact the ACC investment performance is better than any other fund manager, public or private.”

“We urge the Government to take extreme care in its deliberations on ACC,” said Conway.

PSA National Secretary Richard Wagstaff said a Pricewaterhouse Coopers report released last year shows that ACC in New Zealand is cheaper, more efficient and more comprehensive than in Australia where insurance companies provide workplace accident compensation.
