Trade union aid to Gaza

With horrifying pictures coming in every day of Palestinian casualties and protest and counter-protests in New Zealand and around the world, it is worth noting what action trade unionists are taking to support the people of Gaza.

A humanitarian flight with trade union aid delivered aid earlier this week, including three ambulances, medical supplies, milk for babies, rice, wheat and children’s food. The consignment was the first delivery made following an appeal by the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and others.

The ITUC also welcomed the call of the UN Security Council for an immediate and durable cease-fire. General Secretary Guy Ryder said many union groups are sending funds. “Even if the desperately-needed cease-fire is put into place, the humanitarian needs are huge, and the world trade union movement is playing its part in helping to alleviate the suffering of people in Gaza.”
