Westpac profit surge enough to secure good jobs for local workforce

Westpac announced a 6% profit increase on Thursday showing that banks can do well in this country without resorting to offshoring or cutting staff numbers, and that the banks should now make sure that benefits are passed on to their customers.

“ANZ National is sending jobs to Bangalore and cutting numbers in their branches and their profit declined. Westpac has committed to keeping local jobs and it’s profits went up – go figure!” said Andrew Campbell, Finsec Campaigns Director.

“All our major banks are in a strong position despite the credit crisis, and their strength should mean job security for bank staff,” said Campbell
