Union activism delivers fairer working hours

Finsec members at Westpac Sales Direct in Auckland are celebrating improvements to the way their work is organised that were won as a direct result of staff joining Finsec and working together.

Instead of having to work rotating shifts that include weekend work, Finsec members at the site with rotating shifts now don’t have to work weekends. Members who don’t mind working weekends will do so as part of their fixed shifts.

A Finsec member from Sales Direct described the change as a “great success and will give us confidence to challenge the bank for better working environments and employee morale.” While the change was won as part of negotiations, its implementation is credited to the work of active delegates, and a high union density of staff at the worksite.
