Finsec fighting unfair re-grading at Westpac

Finsec members are fighting against Westpac lowering the job grade of Customer Service Representatives in the Cards Call Centre. Finsec has written to the bank to inform them that we believe this move is in breach of the Collective Employment Agreement, and asking the bank to comply with the proper process for any job sizing.

Westpac National Organiser Michael Wood said that the re-grading undervalues the work of these staff and that it is unfair for staff doing the same role to be in different pay grades.

“The bank cannot just change the grading of these roles without going through the process in the Agreement. It breaches the rights of Finsec members and devalues all staff,” said Wood.

Cards Call Centre staff are signing a collective letter to Westpac that asks the bank to reinstate the C grade for the Customer Service Representatives at Cards, and to back pay all Finsec members who have been getting paid at B grade.

Also at Westpac, Finsec is gathering feedback from staff affected by “Project Unity” – the moving of many of its back office functions to a central site in downtown Auckland. Affected staff should check out the Project Unity flyer and let the union know the key issues about the change process.
