Staff call on ANZ National to be a better employer

Futatsuki no Kishi ANZ National staff are calling on the bank to treat all staff equitably and to commit to annual negotiations in the wake of a rejection of the bank’s employment offer.

Union members at ANZ National who belong to Finsec, the finance workers’ union, overwhelming rejected the bank’s offer in a ballot which closed last week. The ANZ National collective agreement is one of the largest private sector agreements in the country.

“We do not believe this offer acknowledges all the hard work that ANZ National Bank workers do. They deliver high quality customer service and have returned the largest profit ever for the bank, yet the bank’s offer penalises some people and does little to build the trust they need to have in their employer.” said Finsec Campaigns Director, Andrew Campbell.

“The bank has said that it does not want to give the pay offer to all staff and that it doesn’t want to negotiate with them each year. We think that is unfair.” said Campbell.

“Many of the workers who have been with the bank the longest will not get the full pay increase the bank is offering and some will receive no pay rise at all. That’s not fair.”

“While members have strongly rejected the bank’s offer, the bank can easily fix this problem. We’re asking the bank to be fair, show all staff they are valued and commit to annual negotiations”, said Campbell.
