Westpac branch reviews

Gossip readers may remember our campaign at the beginning of 2007 to stop a Westpac plan to reduce staff numbers by attrition across the branch network. Well – the campaign worked! Westpac listened; the staff reductions were stopped, and a joint process for reviewing branch resourcing was agreed to.

Now, two person teams (one Finsec rep and one Westpac rep) are traveling around Westpac branches looking into resourcing and staffing issues in the branch network.

Finsec has identified 25 priority branches to kick off this process, and Union Council Chair Maxine Mullen from the Levin branch has been reviewing branches in the central North Island:

“While we know that there are staffing issues at Westpac, we are going into each branch with a completely open mind. If there are staffing issues in a branch, then staff raise them and we work with the bank to try and come up with some solutions. In some cases our recommendations have been around making procedures easier for staff, and in other cases it has been getting a dedicated relief staff member. It is whatever is needed in that branch”.

“It’s really important for branches to have high Finsec membership so that they are actively talking about these issues and raising them when we come around”.

Gossip will keep you updated on the progress of the branch reviews.
