ANZ National members elect delegates to lead Better Banks campaign

Cathie Lendrum, ANZ National Union Council ChairFinsec members at ANZ National are electing delegates this week. The bank has agreed to allow all Finsec members to attend a half hour meeting this week to elect new delegates in the lead up to the Better Banks negotiations scheduled to take place in 2 months time. For union members at ANZ National to have success they need to be organised. Their Union Council has identified four organising goals before negotiations begin:

  • Every site and branch needs to have an elected delegate.
  • Every site and branch should have a noticeboard where people can easily find information about what Finsec is up to.
  • Each worksite and branch should have a communication network that lets everybody know what is going on, and allows people to have their say back to us, the Union Council.
  • Every site and branch is growing its membership to give us more strength in bargaining.

Delegates are an important part of organising a worksite. They oversee the communication and recruitment and help members to campaign for change. It is a simple, but important, task that helps unions succeed.

There is a new Better Banks leaflet available here (pdf file 335kb) to help delegates in all banks recruit new members to Finsec’s Better Banks campaign.
