ANZ National’s turn for Better Banks

Better BanksThings have been a little quiet at ANZ National recently. But Finsec members there are getting ready to join the Better Banks campaign because their employment negotiations begin at the end of July. Like Westpac and PSIS members ANZ National are beginning their campaign by mapping their workplace to find out how many members and non-members there are and where they are.

ANZ National Bank used to be seen as leading the way on employment conditions in banks. It had the best pay and best conditions. It still does compare well, but Finsec members at Westpac are catching up. They did that by growing their membership and campaigning for Better Banks. Meanwhile Finsec membership at ANZ National has declined. Since March 2005 Finsec membership at ANZ National has fallen by 715 from 3,396 to 2,689.

Membership growth is the single most important thing we need to do in order to build power to create Better Banks. Over the next two months we will all need to work hard to rebuild our membership numbers so we are in the strongest position possible to campaign for change.
