British bank workers warned to change accounts

Royal Bank of ScotlandThe Royal Bank of Scotland Group has warned its British workers that they must have their main bank account with them or face disciplinary action. The bank has told staff salaries must be paid into one of their accounts and “Failure to do so will represent a breach of group policy.”

British bank workers’ union, Amicus, said up to 14,000 Royal Bank of Scotland workers still had their primary accounts with competitors.

“If you work for [English supermarket chain] Tesco you won’t be disciplined for buying your groceries from Sainsbury’s,” said Amicus official Rob Macgregor.

Which is all somewhat ironic because workers in New Zealand banks sometimes bank elsewhere because the ‘staff’ packages are not as good they can get as a customer of other banks.
